STAMFORD, CT— A local newspaper reported Barry Sternlicht, CEO of Starwood Hotels & Resort, as saying the company “is pretty close” to naming a successor for his position. Sternlicht previously announced his intentions to retire in June, and has since been searching for a replacement. Sternlicht described what he was looking for in a candidate, saying: “Smarts. I am looking for someone who is smart, who can continue to evolve, change and innovate this company.” He also said he would find the successor outside the company— and the industry. “Bringing in different people from different backgrounds provides us with great perspective,” Sternlicht said in the local paper.
