DENVER— Ed Bucholtz has been named general manager at the Grand Hyatt Denver Downtown to replace John Schafer, who has been named general manager of the new Hyatt Regency Denver at the Colorado Convention Center. Bucholtz will be responsible for overseeing all day-to-day operations of the newly renovated 511-room Grand Hyatt Denver Downtown. In previous experience, he was general manager at the Hyatt Regency Tampa, FL; the Hyatt Charlotte (NC); and Hyatt Regency Atlanta Suites (Marietta, GA). Schafer will oversee the December 2005 opening of 1,100-room Hyatt Regency Denver at the Colorado Convention Center. The property has more than 60,000 square feet of flexible meeting space and conference facilities; a 300-seat, three-meal restaurant; a lobby bar and 27th floor cocktail lounge; and a health club and an indoor lap pool. Schafer joined the Grand Hyatt Denver in 1989 and oversaw the recent $15 million renovation and name change of the hotel, which was formerly the Hyatt Regency Denver. His prior experience includes stops at eight other Hyatt hotels.
