Celebrity Chef Reportedly Reneges on Restaurant at Trump Hotel in DC

WASHINGTON, DC—According to multiple reports, celebrity chef José Andrés is reneging on a deal to open a flagship restaurant in Donald Trump’s under-construction hotel here as a result of recent comments disparaging immigrants.

Andrés is a Spanish immigrant who recently became a U.S. citizen, and more than half of his team is Hispanic. During a speech announcing his candidacy for President in June, Trump said that Mexicans entering the U.S. were bringing drugs and other crime, including rape.

The Trump International Hotel is being built on the site of the historic Old Post Office Pavilion in Washington, DC, and is expected to open in 2016.
