MINNEAPOLIS— Carlson Hotels opened 19 new properties during April and May. Since the beginning of the year, the company has debuted an average of nine new hotels per month. These additions bring the total number of properties to 895 in 68 countries for Carlson, whose brands include Regent International Hotels, Radisson Hotels & Resorts, Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts, Country Inns & Suites By Carlson and Park Inn. Among the 19 new hotels, five new Radisson properties opened in the U.S. with several in key airport and downtown locations. Park Plaza launched five new locations, including a new flagship hotel for the European region. Seven new Country Inns & Suites By Carlson opened including two managed properties in key California markets. Park Inn unveiled its first hotel in Iceland as well as a new hotel in Brunswick, GA featuring the brands new interior design concept for North America. For Radisson, adding new airport and downtown hotels in key markets has been the focus recently with hotels opening at the airports in New Orleans, Phoenix and Seattle-Tacoma. Downtown locations include Kansas City and Salt Lake City. The five new Park Plaza hotels span the globe and include two new managed properties in Phoenix and a new a managed hotel near the Mall of America in Bloomington, MN. Overseas, the brand opened locations in Gurgaon, India and in London. The seven new Country Inns & Suites opened in the U.S. are located in Youngstown, OH; Indianapolis, IN; Brunswick, GA; Hickson, TN; Hagerstown, MD; and San Diego and Sunnyvale, CA. The new Park Inn in Iceland is situated in Reykjavik. Here in the U.S., the brand’s Brunswick, GA property features a new design with much emphasis given to the bed and the bathroom/shower area. The bed includes an enhanced pillow-top inlay pad over a quality mattress while the bath features thicker, higher quality towels, a hookless vinyl shower curtain mounted on a crescent-shaped shower curtain rod and a distinctive showerhead. Looking ahead, Carlsons luxury brand, Regent International Hotels, is nearing the end of construction on two new properties, one in Miami and the other in Shanghai, China. Both hotels are scheduled to open later this year.
