LITCHFIELD PARK, AZ— Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. will manage the Wigwam Resort & Golf Club for an additional 15 years under an agreement signed recently with the West Valley landmarks owner. The agreement comes as Kabuto Arizona Properties LLC, the resorts owner, prepares to pour $4 million worth of improvements into the resorts casitas over the next 12 months, company president George Lee said. A deal also is “imminent” to launch development of condominiums along one of the Wigwams three golf courses, he told The Arizona Republic. Already, a $5 million health spa is being built that should open by years end, and an extensive face lift for the Wigwams Blue and Gold golf courses began two weeks ago. Lee said the flurry of activity is intended to capitalize on rapid West Valley growth and to take maximum advantage of opportunities expected to arise when Glendales Cardinals Stadium opens in fall 2006 at Loop 101 and Maryland Avenue. The resort is just minutes from the venue, where the 2007 Bowl Championship Series collegiate football championship, the 2008 NFL Super Bowl and the annual Fiesta Bowl all will be played.
