STAMFORD, CT—Westin Hotels & Resorts will expand its presence in Latin America with the development of the new Westin Monterrey, which is set to open in 2019.
Under the Starwood Hotels & Resorts umbrella, the signing is part of the brand’s growth strategy in Latin America and Mexico and marks the debut of the Westin brand in Monterrey, Mexico, according to the company. The property will be developed by Desarrollos Missouri and managed by Starwood.
“Developers and guests recognize the power of Westin; from our iconic Heavenly Bed to our Gear Lending partnership with New Balance, we will ensure guests leave feeling better than when they arrived,” said Jorge Giannattasio, SVP and chief of Latin American operations for Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
The hotel will be part of the Punto Valle neighborhood and will include high-end office space and upscale shops and restaurants.
“Our project aims to be the new meeting point of the city, providing a completely new shopping experience, and the Westin perfectly complements our lifestyle concept,” said Ana Garza, director of commercialization of Punto Valle and founding partner of Desarrollos Missouri.
With 180 guestrooms and suites, the hotel will feature the brand’s signature amenities and services. The brand’s wellness program will be implemented throughout its guestrooms and public spaces, including a fitness studio, a rooftop swimming pool and spa. Two onsite restaurants will provide a variety of healthy culinary options alongside the brand’s SuperFoodsRx menus.
Currently, there are 14 Westin-branded hotels in operation in Latin America with two more hotels underway, including The Westin Monterrey and The Westin Cozumel, which will open midyear. In Mexico, Starwood currently operates 30 hotels across eight brands and 12 more are in development.
“Mexico continues to be the bright spot for development in Latin America, and we are on track to reach more than 40 hotels by 2020,” said Victor Vazquez, VP of development for Starwood Latin America. “Westin has a robust presence in Mexico, with urban and leisure hotels in the country’s main destinations and continues to be one of the most sought-after brands by developers and guests in this thriving market.”
