NEW YORK—The Westin New York at Times Square is helping wellness-minded guests maintain their New Year’s resolutions with the introduction of its new Westin Weigh-In initiative.
Guests wearing a personal wellness monitor or pedometer at check-in will receive complimentary workout apparel and footwear from New Balance. The initiative is offered throughout the month of March but will likely be extended, according to the hotel.
Additionally, guests who reach the minimum daily step goal, and show their progress at the front desk, will receive 10% off at the hotel’s Bar 10 lounge, where they can enjoy a number of options from the SuperFoodsRx menu, including tomato mozzarella salad, whole wheat cobb wrap (with grilled chicken, avocado, tomatoes and gorgonzola), edamame dumplings and quesadilla.
“One of our most popular amenities is our complimentary WestinWorkout gym,” said Sean Verney, general manager of the Westin New York at Times Square. “We created this program to make it even easier for guests to be well during their stay with us and help jump-start their fitness resolutions for 2015.”
Westin supports overall wellness, and its brand pillars—Sleep Well, Eat Well, Move Well, Feel Well, Work Well and Play Well—underscore that effort. “At Westin, all of our programming is designed to encourage wellbeing in travel,” said Verney. “The Westin Weigh-In package is a reflection of this, promoting the brand pillars of Move Well and Feel Well.”
The 3,000-sq.-ft. WestinWorkout fitness center is complimentary and open 24 hours a day, seven days per week. The gym offers Life Fitness equipment and free weights, as well as a scale for guests who want to keep a close watch on their progress.
The New Balance Gear Lending Program provides guests with workout gear and shoes for use during their stay so they can pack lighter. When ready to exercise, guests would call the front desk with their clothing and shoe sizes. The items will then be delivered to the room free of charge with new socks, which guests can keep. The concierge can also suggest outdoor jogging routes for those who prefer to workout while exploring the city.
In addition to monitoring movement, many of today’s personal wellness bands also monitor sleep patterns. Guests can take advantage of the hotel’s Rest Well Calls to ensure they are getting enough sleep. Those who opt to use the program will be called at night, alerting them that it is time to go to bed, and then again seven to eight hours later—the recommended amount of nightly sleep for adults, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Located at 270 W. 43rd St., the 873-room hotel offers the brand’s signature Westin Heavenly Bed. The hotel includes Shula’s Steak House and is connected to a 200,000-sq.-ft. entertainment and retail complex featuring movie theaters, restaurants and shopping.
Guests are encouraged to share their wellness experiences by using #WestinWellbeing on social media. “We have just launched the package and are looking forward to seeing the response to it from our guests,” said Verney.
