WASHINGTON, DC—Following the model of BD Hotels’ Pod Hotels in New York City—Pod 51 and Pod 39—Pod DC will open in fall 2016 in the Penn Quarter neighborhood here.
The property will offer communal spaces where travelers can socialize and connect. The hotel is being developed by Modus Hotels, a Washington, DC developer, owner and operator of lifestyle hotels.
Pod DC’s 245 guestrooms will come in double, queen and bunk-bed configurations, with features that include built-in storage, high-tech amenities to keep guests plugged in and engaged, and tiled bathrooms with barn doors, rain showerheads and eco-friendly bath products.
The hotel’s 12,000 sq. ft. of public space will include a full-service bar, restaurant, rooftop lounge, and community work space.
“The expansion of Pod Hotels to DC is a symbol of the broad appeal of our micro-hotel concept,” said Richard Born of BD Hotels. “We expect Pod DC to attract a similar type of traveler to those who visit our New York properties: individuals from all over the U.S., Europe, Asia and South America, ranging in age from 18 to 85, who are looking for an affordable, stylish hotel that allows them to easily explore a destination and meet others with similar passions in the property’s communal spaces. We look forward to collaborating with Modus Hotels to bring the hotel to life.”
The Pod DC will be located near the National Portrait Gallery, the Smithsonian museums and the International Spy Museum, as well as the Verizon Center.
