BOSTON— Taj Hotels, Resorts, & Palaces has acquired the landmark Ritz-Carlton Boston for $170 million with plans to rebrand it the Taj Boston. Mumbai-based Taj is part of Indian Hotels Co., Ltd., which in turn is a unit of the Tata Group conglomerate. Taj has been looking to build its brand worldwide and last year acquired the leasehold on The Pierre in New York, though declined to rebrand the hotel. The Boston property was acquired from Millennium Partners, which retains ownership of Bostons other Ritz-Carlton, the Ritz-Carlton Boston Commons.
