YEREVAN, ARMENIA—Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc., is slated to enter Armenia in the summer of 2017 with the opening of The Alexander, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Yerevan. This move underscores Starwood’s strategy to meet the growing demand for experiential luxury travel in emerging markets around the globe, according to the brand.

“On the heels of surpassing the 100th hotel milestone, The Luxury Collection continues its rapid expansion with the signing of The Alexander in the historic destination of Yerevan,” said Michael Wale, president, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Europe, Africa and Middle East. “We are proud to partner with Tsupani CJSC and continue to deliver on our promise of bringing a new level of luxury to this area. The hotel, ideally located in the heart of Armenia’s capital, will offer guests unique access to authentic destination experiences.”

The Alexander hotel will be located close to the Republic Square; The Institute of Ancient Manuscripts known for its literary anthology dating back to the ninth century; the seven fountains; as well as the History Museum and National Art Gallery, the largest art museum in Armenia. The new-build property will feature 114 guestrooms, including 17 suites and a presidential suite.

In addition, the hotel will also offer event and meeting spaces, including a ballroom, eight meeting rooms and a business center. The wellness facilities include an indoor pool, spa and a fitness center. Culinary offerings include an all-day dining restaurant, a cigar club and a lobby bar.

“We are confident that The Luxury Collection brand’s unique and refined offerings will perfectly complement the hallmarks of The Alexander hotel,” said Anatoly Kondratenko, senior director, Starwood Development, Europe, Africa and Middle East. “In addition to being the first Starwood hotel in Armenia, the signing of The Alexander showcases our commitment to this travel market.”
