WHITE PLAINS, NY— Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, here, made the list of Fortune 500 companies who scored high marks for employing disabled workers in 2001. Out of the 132 companies that responded to the survey conducted by Mahattan-based Just One Break, Starwood ranked number 23. Other New York area companies included IBM, which ranked number one, as well as Bear Stearns (38), Viacom (33) and Colgate-Palmolive (37). The companies were ranked according to the scope of their efforts and ability to recruit and retain disabled employees. However, Just One Break noted, many companies declined to respond to the voluntary survey because they were unable to actively recruit new hires in the economic downturn. SOURCE: crainsny.com
