WHITE PLAINS, NY- It has been reported that Sarasota, FL-based developer John McDonald will flag his 234-room hotel under construction in Fort Lauderdale as a St. Regis property. The St. Regis chain, a subsidiary of Starwood Hotels and Resorts, will officially be named operator of the hotel on September 14, 2000.
The 23-story tower is expected to cost about $160 million. The hotel will share space with some condominium units and timeshares on top of the tower.
McDonald hopes to select a contractor this month and apply for foundation permits for the building in mid-October. Construction may begin in November, with a projected opening in late 2002. (9/9/00)
