VIENNA—Signa and an affiliate of Hyatt Hotels Corporation have entered a 50:50 joint venture for the development of the Andaz Am Belvedere Vienna here. International architect Renzo Piano will lead the project, which is slated to open in early 2019, and Claudio Carbone and Gabriel Kacerovsky will design the hotel’s interiors.
The hotel will be located opposite the 21er Haus and Schweizergarten, next to the Belvedere Palace. Following the opening of Park Hyatt Vienna, the new hotel will be the second collaboration between Signa and Hyatt.
“The great success we’ve seen with Park Hyatt Vienna is further evidence that Hyatt is the right brand for us,” said Christoph Stadlhuber, CEO, Signa Holding. “Our work together will highlight both of our respective strengths—Hyatt is a high-quality, global and trusted brand that is well-known for its operational excellence. At the same time, Signa can leverage its experience of successfully realizing outstanding real estate developments in major urban centers, comprising office blocks and towers, large residential developments, shopping centers as well as hotels. We both feel that the Andaz brand is an ideal fit for the modern and outstanding architecture of the Renzo Piano Building Workshop in the wonderful city of Vienna.”
“This is an incredibly important development for Vienna, with the Belvedere Quarter set to become a sought-after destination in the city,” said Peter Norman, SVP of acquisitions and development for Hyatt – Europe, Africa and Middle East. “It also represents an exciting opportunity to extend the successful collaboration between Signa and Hyatt and to bring our customers the luxury and creative inspiration that the Andaz brand is known for.”
To bring the Andaz concept to life here, the hotel will take inspiration from the city’s art and architecture, diverse cuisine and quality of life, according to the company. Taking its cue from Prince Eugene of Savoy, the man behind the Belvedere Palace, Andaz Am Belvedere will feature contemporary local art and design that will immerse guests in the history of Prince Eugene and the city.
The hotel will be a short distance from the new Vienna Central Station and will be accessible to the local transport system. Nearby attractions include The Botanical Gardens, Belvedere Palace and St. Stephen’s Square.
The 300-room hotel will have a conference facility and ballroom. The property will be comprised of two separate buildings connected by interwoven bridges, with a shared lounge on the ground floor. Other onsite features include a large spa, fitness area, rooftop bar, restaurant and a lobby bar. The underground car park will provide charging stations for electric cars and motorcycles.
