Park Hyatt Hangzhou Opens in East China

CHICAGO—The Park Hyatt Hangzhou has opened in Hangzhou, China. The 242-room luxury residence is located in the heart of Qianjiang New City CBD, Hangzhou’s hub for commerce and culture on the Qiantang River.

The hotel forms part of the miXc complex, which also houses offices, residential apartments and a six-level, high-end retail podium. Topping the uppermost levels of the 49-floor skyscraper, the property is the tallest hotel in the city, according to the brand. The hotel is proximate to Hangzhou International Airport and Hangzhou East Railway Station.

Designed by New York duo George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg, the property has been conceived as a contemporary Jiangnan-style residence, referencing the local South Yangtze River (Jiangnan) area. Hand-carved wood and bronze screens and atmospheric lighting evoke the shadows and reflections on the surface of West Lake, according to the brand. A series of lobbies are crafted from deeply veined marble and contemporary Chinese lattice screens backlit in gold leaf. The Sky Lobby features a glass and marble reception hall with high ceilings, hanging Chinese lanterns, a fireplace and an art gallery.

The guestroom design has natural woods and a blue color palette, as well as hand-tufted silk carpets depicting Hangzhou’s plum blossoms and a hand-painted Chinese lacquer cabinet concealing the minibar. An oversized executive desk is made from a single piece of hardwood, while the headboard illustrates a cherry blossom shadow pattern. Bathrooms have freestanding marble bathtubs, double vanities and deluxe bath products.

In addition, the hotel has a variety of restaurants and bars, with menus ranging from regional to Italian cuisine. There are also four meeting venues and residential-style lounge spaces for up to 100 guests.
