HONOLULU, HI Outrigger Hotels & Resorts will open the
254-room Outrigger Reef Fiji Resort on October 1, 2000.
The $23.3 million property is located on the Coral Coast of Viti Levu, the largest island in the Fiji archipelago. Managed by Outrigger, the resort is patterned after a traditional Fijian village with thatched bures (bungalows) and low-rise buildings with ocean views.
Originally scheduled to open in June, the Outrigger Reef Fiji s timetable was interrupted by a national coup. The unrest in Fiji has since stabilized and visitor arrivals are recovering due to travel
specials and expanded air capacity from Australia and New Zealand. (9/15/00)
