PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FL— Sawgrass Golf Resort & Spa, a Marriott Resort recently introduced an expanded lobby and a new Irish bar here. The property also adopted a new name. It was previously known as Sawgrass Marriott Resort & Spa. The new lobby has a “great room” style and an open environment with a variety of seating and meeting areas for business travelers who mix work, relaxation, socializing and play throughout their day. Kelly’s Pub, the new Irish bar, serves drinks as well as food such as hand-carved sandwiches. The property’s ownership group, a joint venture comprised of affiliates of Irish-based investment company Redquartz Boundary Ltd., launched a $16-million capital improvement program in 2006 that included an upgrade of guestrooms. The resort’s guestroom renovations coincided with a $40-million improvement program at the PGA TOUR’s flagship TPC Sawgrass, where $10 million was spent on renovations at the Players Stadium Course. Some $30 million was invested in the construction of a 77,000-square-foot clubhouse.
