PORTSMOUTH, NH— The Portwalk mixed-use development in downtown Portsmouth, NH, will now be a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-certified project. The development, which is will be owned by Cathartes Private Investments, will feature four buildings over an underground parking garage. Each building will have retail space on its ground floor. A 128-room extended-stay hotel will represent one of the buildings. Other buildings will offer residential and office space. Leading to the LEED-certification will be such project aspects as white roofing; which reduces the “heat island effect;” water-efficient landscaping; and alternative transportation, which will involve nearby bus lines, bike storage and preferred parking for low-emitting and fuel-efficient vehicles. Having parking underground is also an environmentally sustainable project aspect.
