Marriott Breaks Ground in Haiti

PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI–Marriott International broke ground on a $45 million, 175-room Marriott-branded hotel in Port-au-Prince’s Turgeau neighborhood.

When the hotel opens in early 2015, it will be the first branded, four-star hotel in Haiti, according to Marriott executives.

The Digicel Group, a mobile telecomminications operator active in the Caribbean, is Marriott’s partner in the project, responsible for designing and building the hotel.

Marriott will operate the property under a long-term management agreement. I

n addition to creating more than 200 hospitality jobs in Haiti, Marriott plans to invest in workforce training to benefit the country’s tourism sector.

The Marriott Hotel Port-au-Prince will feature a restaurant with a private dining area, a fitness center, swimming pool and meeting and event space.
