HONG KONG Bass PLC will invest $70 million to double the presence of its Inter-Continental Hotels & Resorts brand in the Asia-Pacific region by January 2003. The expansion, which will be carried out through the upgrading of existing hotels and backing construction of new ones, will bring the regional total for Bass luxury chain to 29 hotels in 14 countries. The expansion program includes investments in single hotels in Beijing; Shanghai; Penang, Malaysia; and Wellington and Christchurch in New Zealand. It also includes hotels in Moorea, Bora Bora, Tahiti and a fourth site in French Polynesia. Those in India are in New Delhi, Srinagar, Goa and two in Bombay. (12/8/00) SOURCE: The Wall Street Journal
