IHG Apppoints Industry Veteran, Thomas Schmelter, to Asia Posts

BANGKOK—The InterContinental Bangkok named Thomas Schmelter general manager of its 381-room hotel located in the Ratchaprasong district here, as well as named him regional general manager of IHG-Thailand.

In his new role, Schmelter will oversee the hotel operation of IHG’s nine hotels in Thailand across all brands from his base at the InterContinental Bangkok.

With more than 25 years in the hospitality industry, Schmelter most recently served as director of operations/IHG-Gulf States and Saudi Arabia, where he was responsible for the operation of 28 hotels in Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Oman.

Schmelter began his hospitality career in Germany. He later joined IHG hotels in Europe, subsequently working in India and throughout Asia, with increasing responsibility over the years.
