NEW YORK—The American Hotel and Lodging Association during its Fall Conference here held its annual inaugural gala at the Grand Hyatt Hotel to fete incoming chairman Robert Steele III, general manager of the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay, FL. Taking the reins from Joe Kane of Wyndham Hotel Group and president/CEO of Days Inn Worldwide, Inc., Steele will helm the organization in the voluntary position in 2007. He also will continue to advance the group’s three-year plan to move the association forward in terms of membership, increasing AH&LA’s brand value, and promulgating diversity and multicultural opportunities. “The number-one core objective is to increase membership and retention by 15 percent in partner state associations and direct member states,” Steele told the audience of industry movers and shakers gathered in the Hyatt’s ballroom for the black-tie affair. Steele, who has served for 31 years with Hyatt Hotels Corp., is currently chairman of the association’s membership committee and also is officer liaison to AH&LA’s Credit Card Advisory Council, Financial Management Committee and Lodging Industry Rating Advisory Committee.
