NEW YORK-Suppliers of package terminal air conditioner (PTAC) units said today at the International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show here that new government energy regulations next year would make the units more efficient.
Vendors such as GE and Amana said that the changes, which are expected to be issued in October 2012, would likely make PTAC units more expensive, while improving efficiency. Units sold before that date are allowed to continue to adhere to the old standards.
Because of their ease of preventive maintenance and the ability of guests to regulate them to obtain the desired heating or cooling, PTAC systems have grown in popularity in recent years.
