WASHINGTON, D.C.- Fall travel in the U.S. is expected to increase by 2% compared to 1999 fall travel, according to the latest seasonal forecast by the Travel Industry Association of America (TIA). Americans are expected to take 154.9 million person-trips this fall. A person-trip is one person traveling 50 miles or more from home, one way.
TIAs Fall 2000 Travelometer shows that more than 3/4 of all past year travelers (77%) say they will travel this fall, slightly higher than fall 1999 travel intentions (74%). In addition, 18% say they will travel more this fall than last fall and nearly half (49%) say they will travel the same amount as last fall. Among those who plan to travel this fall, 20% plan to travel for business or conventions, which is up 3.5%. 84% plan to travel for pleasure or personal reasons, representing an increase of 3.2% over last year. 9% will travel for some other reason, according to TIA.
