BOSTON- Doubts continue to swirl around plans for a new convention center hotel in South Boston. Recently, Starwood needed an extension on its deadline to secure financing for its 1,120-room proposed property, which is expected to serve as the convention centers anchor hotel.
Earlier this week, Nicolas Pritzker, who plans two hotels also considered crucial to the new meeting venue, said he might abandon his plan if it does not get approval soon. The three hotels, totaling more than 1,800 rooms, are deemed essential to the convention centers ability to attract groups.
Also, an unnamed state official involved in developing the convention center recently expressed doubts regarding the Starwood project, noting that the climate for real estate projects, particularly in the hotel segment, has cooled. (10/19/00)
