ORLANDO, FL Disney has planned a number of changes for the Animal Kingdom park in Orlando, including a four-star hotel.

Disney officials said that they plan to open the new 1,293-room Animal Kingdom Lodge hotel just west of the park in April. The deluxe hotel – priced from $199 per night in the off season to $500 per night in peak season – will feature balcony views of a game preserve stocked with 130 birds and 75 giraffes, gazelles and other hoofed animals.

Walt Disney Co. is also adding midway games and a pair of new rides in a retro carnival setting to Disneys Animal Kingdom to pep up the parks appeal. (10/2/00)
