MCLEAN, VA—Hilton Worldwide has unveiled plans to bring Canopy by Hilton to the U.K. with Canopy by Hilton London City. Following a franchise agreement with 4C Hotel Group, the new hotel, located in Aldgate, will open in early 2018.
“London is a city of many incredibly eclectic neighborhoods. Located within the historic City of London and adjacent to areas such as Whitechapel and Spitalfields, Aldgate is an ideal fit for the introduction of the U.K.’s first Canopy by Hilton,” said Patrick Fitzgibbon, SVP, development, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Hilton Worldwide.
Gary Steffen, global head, Canopy by Hilton added, “Canopy offers travelers a fresh experience in the lifestyle category with surprising extras and local know-how. Aldgate was chosen for its proximity to both the stylish City of London and the more edgy and energetic East End.”
Situated at 16 Minories, the hotel will be adjacent to the historic Roman and medieval city walls. London’s East End is near the property.
Construction has commenced on the mixed-use development, which features a metal clad facade. The Minories development will feature a new city square; a public green garden; an office building; and a new residential building alongside the Canopy by Hilton hotel. The interior design of Canopy by Hilton London City will draw on the legacy of the Whitechapel Gallery and the melting pot of cultures in the surrounding area, according to the company.
A key feature of the brand is Canopy Central, the ground floor lobby designed to reflect the neighborhood. Additional dining options will include a hotel restaurant serving locally inspired dishes, while a rooftop bar will offer views and evening tastings of local craft beer and wine. WiFi and an artisanal breakfast will be provided. Other amenities include meeting rooms and a fitness center.
The launch of the London City hotel will follow the opening of Canopy by Hilton in Reykjavik, Iceland, this summer.
