ANCHORAGE, AK The Inlet Tower Suites, a 14-story downtown hotel here, recently received a letter from Anchorage code enforcement officers outlining a host of problems, including structural faults, requiring costly upgrades to meet earthquake standards. The most pressing problems require the owners, listed in city files as Cherrier & King of Anchorage, to cover electrical boxes and exposed wires and take care of other “life safety” issues. While the building is not in imminent danger of collapsing, a big earthquake could rock the hotel. However, improving its seismic design might be one of the most costly problems to solve. Anchorage developer Marc Marlow, is behind the effort to convert the MacKay into a 220-room Radisson Hotel with four upscale apartments, however, he is unsure how much it will cost to make the repairs.
