INTERNATIONAL REPORT—Properties are in the works including a racetrack development in New Mexico along with three tropical resorts abroad. Here’s a look at projects underway:

Full House Resorts Proposes Racetrack in New Mexico

Full House Resorts has proposed to the New Mexico Racing Commission to build La Posada del Llano, a resort that will include a racetrack, casino, luxury hotel, 18-hole golf course, water park and other amenities on the plains of eastern New Mexico. The Las Vegas-based company operates five casino and related hospitality and entertainment facilities throughout the United States. The development proposal was submitted in response to the New Mexico Racing Commission’s competitive process for the state’s sixth racing license.

Setting the proposed racetrack apart will be the “Moving Grandstand,” a feature that will transform how fans experience live horse races.  Similar to a tram or streetcar, the Moving Grandstand would have stadium seating for hundreds of guests and travel at the same speed as the racehorses, circling the track and giving spectators a close-up view of the horses for the entirety of the race.

Upscale Residences to Open on Private Island in Maldives

Joali Maldives has revealed its opening plans as well as its full range of amenities, including the Joali Spa by ESPA and an art studio and gallery, available to guests starting Oct. 1. Located on its own private island in Raa Atoll, the hotel will have overwater and beach villas including two-, three- and four-bedroom residences and four restaurant concepts.

Design studio Autoban, architecture and design studio Atolye4n and Tokyo-based Studio Glitt led the overall design and architecture throughout the 24-acre resort. The resort’s plan and layout preserved more than 1,000 trees during the construction process.

Solaz, a Luxury Collection Resort Comes to Los Cabos, Mexico

Solaz, a Luxury Collection Resort, Los Cabos is opening Sept. 1, occupying 34 acres overlooking the Sea of Cortez, midway between the Cabo San Lucas and the town of San Jose del Cabo. This will be the first hotel in Baja California Sur for The Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts by Marriott brand.

The 128-room resort was meant to pay tribute to Baja California, both in its design and guest experience. Solaz Resort has four restaurants and lounges and has the largest meeting space at any luxury hotel in Los Cabos. The resort has 20,000 sq. ft. of meeting, wedding and event space that can accommodate more than 1,000 guests and includes a 3,500-sq.-ft. ballroom and 11,000-sq.-ft. outdoor deck.

Beach Villas to Open in Fiji With Amenities, Sustainable Design

Nanuku Auberge Resorts Collection, set along the coastline of Fiji’s main island of Viti Levu, will open 13 new, luxury one- and two-bedroom Auberge Beach Villas this November. Each Auberge beach villa will have indoor and outdoor living, including Colonial-inspired interiors and exteriors, private plunge pools, outdoor terraces, custom bathroom fixtures and fully equipped kitchens.

The Villas provide access to more than 50 “Auberge Adventures” such as visiting Nanuku’s own private island, beekeeping experiences, Olympic-inspired rugby training, mangrove replanting, treetop dining, food safaris, snorkeling and more.

In addition, Nanuku incorporated sustainable design elements that minimize importation of bulk construction materials. Villa windows and doors are made from locally sourced timber, such as certified sustainable mahogany, and roofing is made from partially recycled material.
