TOKYO—Hotel Okura Co., Ltd. will begin reconstruction on the main building of its flagship property, Hotel Okura Tokyo, in 2015.
Reconstruction is slated to be finished by spring 2019 and will cost more than $980 million, according to the company.
The high-rise complex will feature new technology and facilities but will maintain the hotel’s traditional Japanese architectural style. The main building will add guestrooms, expanding from 408 to 550 in total. In addition, the complex will have 18 floors of office space and a garden.
“The garden, to occupy 60% of the hotel’s 6.4 acres, will provide our guests a serene, beautiful haven in the middle of Tokyo,” stated Toshihiro Ogita, president of Hotel Okuro Co., Ltd.
The main building will close for reconstruction at the end of August 2015. The South Wing will remain open during the reconstruction, and some facilities will be relocated there.
