PHILADELPHIA, PA— Hersha Hospitality Trust here has acquired two hotels in New Jersey— the 132-room Hilton Garden Inn at Edison Raritan Center, and the 148-room Hampton Inn at Newark-Linden— bringing the real estate investment trust’s hotel portfolio to 21 properties. The hotels were purchased from American Properties Realty, a privately held, full-service residential and commercial real estate development firm based in New Jersey. “Both hotels are less than a year old, in great physical condition, and include many enhancements over and above their brand’s prototypical standards,” said Hersha CEO Hasu Shah. “The properties are ideally located between our hotel clusters in New York and Philadelphia and possess strong barriers to new competition. “Additionally, the acquisitions further our strategy of purchasing three- to four-star, institutional-grade assets between the Boston metro and Washington, DC metro markets,” Shah maintained, adding: “We look forward to the opportunity to expand our relationship with American Properties Realty and other leading hotel developers that operate in the same segments.” Located at 50 Raritan Center Pkwy. in Edison, the Hilton Garden Inn is situated within the Raritan Center Commercial Park and is within walking distance of the New Jersey Convention and Exhibition Center as well as a short drive from downtown Newark, Newark International Airport and Manhattan. The hotel offers 5,000 square feet of meeting space, the Garden Café that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, an indoor swimming pool, whirlpool, 24-hour business center, fitness center, coin laundry, the Pavilion Pantry, and complimentary shuttle service. Rooms are equipped with free high-speed Internet access, two telephones with voice-mail, mini-refrigerator, microwave, iron and ironing board, large work desk and dataport. The Hampton Inn Newark-Linden is located five miles from Newark Liberty International Airport, adjacent to Linden Airport and minutes from New York City. Hotel amenities include free high-speed Internet access, 1,000 square feet of meeting space, an outdoor swimming pool, fitness center, coin laundry, and shuttle service. Each room provides two telephones with voice-mail, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, and some rooms are equipped with a mini-refrigerator and Jacuzzi.
