SPRINGFIELD, MO— John Q. Hammons Hotels, Inc. has promoted two executives: CFO Paul Muellner has been named executive vice president and vp/corporate counsel Debra Mallonee Shantz has been named svp/general counsel. Muellner, on staff since 1998, will continue to direct all financial functions of the company, including overseeing the company’s finance department, controller, audit staff, information technology and investor relations, as well as providing strategic financial leadership and counsel to help guide the company into the future. Preceding his promotion to CFO, Muellner served as the firm’s vp/corporate controller. Prior to joining John Q. Hammons Hotels, Muellner served as vp/finance for Carnival Hotel & Casinos’ hospitality group in Miami, FL. His financial career in hospitality began in 1979 with Marriott Corp., where he served as a financial analyst and staff accountant. Shantz brings more than 15 years of experience to her position, including more than eight years with John Q. Hammons Hotels, Inc. Prior to joining the firm, she served as a partner with Farrington & Curtis (now Husch & Eppenberger) in Springfield, MO, specializing in corporate transactions and real estate development.
