NINGBO, CHINA–Westin Hotels & Resorts plans to open hotels here and in Xian and Xiamen in the next six months, bringing its portfolio in China to 16.

The upper-upscale brand, which is part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, is on track to double its footprint in China by 2014.

International development, spearheaded by China, has been a high priority for Westin. More than 90% of the brand’s hotels currently in development are outside the U.S.
