LANGKAWI, MALAYSIA— Westin Hotels & Resorts opened its first hotel in Malaysia last month and also announced plans for a new property in New Zealand. Formerly the Sheraton Perdana Resort, the new Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa in Malaysia opened following an extensive renovation and the addition of luxury residential villas and state-of-the-art meeting facilities. It features 202 guestrooms and suites, 20 villas, a variety of restaurants and lounges and a range of full-service recreational facilities. The new Westin joins the Sheraton Langkawi Beach Resort as the second Starwood Hotels & Resorts’ property in this Malaysian island destination. Plans for the new Westin Queenstown in New Zealand were announced by Starwood and Peninsula Road Limited, a fully owned subsidiary of Melview Developments Limited. Scheduled to open in 2009, the Westin Queenstown will be managed by Starwood. It will have 177 rooms, including 12 suites, 7,800 square feet of meeting space, a gourmet restaurant and a casual bistro. The hotel will also have a lounge, a spa and wellness center, a gym and a heated indoor swimming pool.
