SAN FRANCISCO The Bloomingdales project on Market Street, which consists of a 20-story luxury hotel, a nine-screen movie theater, upscale boutiques and office space, is in the midst of a crippling dispute over union organizing rights.
The 1.6 million- square-foot project, planned for the historic Emporium building, goes before the boards Finance and Labor Committee today.
Supervisor Michael Yaki warned that the $400 million development, which would create thousands of jobs, would not get the boards full approval without an agreement permitting the labor movement to attempt to organize the workers.
