U.S. Leads in Hotel Construction

PORTSMOUTH, NH—The United States is a leader when it comes to hotel construction. According to Lodging Econometrics, the U.S. has the largest construction pipelines in the world with 4,471 projects and 551,965 rooms. China, the second largest country for hotel construction, has 2,448 projects and 549,222 rooms.

Countries following at a distance are Brazil with 407 projects and 70,833 rooms; Indonesia with 398 projects and 64,695 rooms; and India with 314 projects and 47,566 rooms.

China, Brazil, Indonesia and India all had shrinking pipelines in the last year, down an average of 12% by projects. India recorded the largest drop with a decrease of 19% by project count.
