BIRMINGHAM, AL— The Tutwiler Hotel is slated to complete its full-scale restoration in late March. To date, the historic exterior and 100 of the hotel’s 149 guestrooms have been restored. The hotel’s signature restaurant, Icon Restaurant and Bar, will open this month. Renovations will continue in the lobby areas, meeting rooms and ballrooms once guestrooms are complete. Though the rooms are being stripped to their frame, their architecture and character will remain true to the building’s historic spirit, according to William Murray, president of Integral Hospitality Solutions, which took over ownership of the hotel in March of 2006. The Tutwiler is also adding several corporate suites on its top floor. In total, Integral Hospitality will invest more than $9 million in the hotel’s restoration, Murray noted.
