WASHINGTON—Trump Hotel Collection unveiled the architecture and design for its $200 million redevelopment of The Old Post Office, which will be transformed into Trump International Hotel, The Old Post Office, Washington, D.C.
Trump Hotel Collection serves as developer of the hotel, working alongside architects Beyer Blinder Belle, interior design consultants Hirsch Bedner Associates and historic advisor and preservation specialists John Cullinane & Associates.
Construction is scheduled to begin next spring with an expected completion in late 2015.
The hotel will pursue LEED green building certification.
According to the company, the design was inspired by America’s European heritage and contains Romanesque elements with an American perspective. Public areas will feature design elements like backlighted marble and limited mullion glass. The Cortile, a nine-story atrium, will function as the hotel’s gathering place, comprising the lobby and lounge. The Cortile will be furnished in jewel tones—deep red, aubergine, sapphire and emerald—with gold accents and be finished with hand-woven area rugs, a water sculpture and brass and crystal chandeliers. The ground level also will include restaurants and luxury retailers on the corners of Pennsylvania Ave.
All 270 guestrooms will feature a palette of Federal blues, creams and ivories, paired with soft gold and silver accents, punctuated with deep red. They also will offer wool carpeting, stone tops and polished-wood furnishings. Bathrooms will feature six-foot tubs, wood vanities with marble tops and polished-brass hardware.
Two presidential suites will retain original fireplaces, wood doors and moldings, and offer amenities such as separate dining room with pantry and service entry, his-and-her walk-in closets, private sauna and steam room, two-person shower and direct elevator access.
The hotel will offer a total of 39,000 sq. ft. of meeting and event space, as well as a library featuring a 25-ft. coffered ceiling, high arched windows, ornate columns, intricate millwork, hardwood floors, velvet draperies and hand-woven area rugs.
The building also features a clock tower, housing the official United States Bells of Congress, a Bicentennial gift from England celebrating the end of the Revolutionary War. A dedicated entrance on the south side of the building will welcome visitors, and feature an Old Post Office museum, exhibition center and retail outlets.
In addition, the hotel will feature a 4,000-sq.-ft. Mar-a-Lago Spa by Ivanka Trump.
