NATIONAL REPORT—This summer, hotels are popping up in gateway cities like Los Angeles, Miami and Boston. Offering new looks, these properties are taking cues from their architecture and locale.

1 Hotels Opens West Coast Flagship

1 Hotels opened its fourth property and West Coast flagship—1 West Hollywood. Formerly The Jeremy, the property has undergone a total transformation, taking its cues from the raw natural beauty of the Southern California landscape. The newest property will continue to be operated by SH Hotels & Resorts, a subsidiary of Starwood Capital Group, a global private investment firm.

With an Energy Star score of 95, “1 WeHo” will be one of the most energy-efficient hotels in Los Angeles, according to the brand. Among its property-wide conservation practices is the inclusion of native and adaptive vegetation, a smart irrigation system that determines when soil actually needs water, a 100% organic, sustainably grown vegetable garden and neighboring beehive, and 100-year-old olive trees.

Inside the hotel, smart energy-efficient zoning of air conditioning and fresh air keeps guests comfortable and LED lighting flows throughout the building. Designed by AvroKo and executed by SH Hotels & Resorts’ interior design team, the property’s conscious earthy design is inspired by the beauty and simplicity of raw materials: reclaimed timber and steel, recycled fiber carpeting, abundant native greenery and stunning stonework. The reception desk is crafted from lumber, sourced from naturally fallen trees, and all lobby furniture is locally made by J. Alexander.

Lennox Hotels Heralds First U.S. Property

Lennox Hotels celebrated the grand opening of Lennox Hotel Miami Beach, an intimate, bold, luxury boutique hotel in the heart of Miami’s historic district. It is the hotelier’s first entrance into the U.S. market. Located in what was once the Peter Miller Hotel built in 1936 and a Collins Ave. landmark, Lennox Hotel Miami Beach opens its doors after undertaking a complete transformation of the property.

The property’s original Art Deco facade is among the highlights, as well as a few hints of the past found throughout the property, such as in the lobby where original terrazzo floor and archways remain. Accommodations include 119 contemporary guestrooms overlooking the streets of Miami Beach. Each room is equipped with handcrafted furnishings from Patagonia and green, upcycled materials. The soft, neutral tones and distinctive textiles combine to create a tranquil environment throughout the property, according to the brand.

The Whitney Hotel Arrives in Boston

The Whitney, a 65-room luxury boutique hotel, has officially opened its doors in Boston’s historic Beacon Hill. Developed by Related Beal and operated by Hersha Hospitality Management (HHM), the property is located at the corner of Charles St. and Cambridge St., and named for Henry Melville Whitney, a prominent Boston industrialist who once owned the site.

Designed by Boston-based Hacin + Associates, the property reflects Beacon Hill’s classic brick townhouse style. Guestrooms have large windows, Wright mattresses, Frette bed linens, organic bath amenities from Grown Alchemist and more. Four premium suites are each uniquely designed, offering views of Beacon Hill, the Charles River and Cambridge.
