NEW YORK- According to a survey conducted by Ernst & Youngs Hospitality Services Group, the 2000 World Series between the Yankees and the Mets was a big hit among New York tourists.
According to Michael Fishbin, head of the Groups New York office, “While our survey of NYC luxury and boutique hotels indicated that this years Subway Series had a nominal impact on the hotel occupancy, nearly all survey participants indicated the series created an unprecedented buzz in hotel lobbies and restaurants. Concierge and other hotel personnel were inundated with requests for tickets and advice on where best to catch the action.”
The hotel management executives surveyed indicated that the Yankees six-year playoff and World Series run has contributed to the overall steady increase in hotel room rates over this period, as has the strong New York City economy and perception of the Big Apple as an attractive tourist and convention destination.
