WHITE PLAINS, NY—Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has inked a management contract to operate the Our Lucaya Beach & Golf Resort on Grand Bahamas Island, one of the largest resorts in the Caribbean. The three distinct areas of the resort complex are slated to be reflagged The Westin at Our Lucaya Beach & Golf Resort and Sheraton at Our Lucaya Beach & Golf Resort in February 2003. The 372-acre, 1,270-room resort complex features two 18-hole PGA level golf courses, a spa and fitness center, 15 themed restaurants and lounges, flanked by seven and a half acres of white sand and sparkling water. The property is owned by the Hutchison Whampoa Group of Hong Kong. Following an investment of more than $400 million, the resort opened in December. The three hotel wings within the resort complex are Lighthouse Pointe, Breakers Cay and Reef Village and each feature views of the tropical gardens, yacht-filled Port Lucaya Marina, Bell Channel waterway or the beach. Lighthouse Pointe and Breakers Cay will become The Westin at Our Lucaya with a total of 751 rooms. The property is made up of 225 rooms, including 26 furnished suites with direct beach access. Breakers Cay, a 10-story high-rise will offer 526 rooms with 81 Westin Executive Club rooms and an exclusive Club Lounge. The 519-room Reef Village by contrast will fly the Sheraton flag. Catering to the needs of families, the Sheraton at Our Lucaya features 12 suites with a living area, furnished balconies and efficiency kitchens. Within the Village is the themed Sugar Mill Pool with waterslides and. Guests will also enjoy Sheratons newly introduced Sheraton Sweet Sleepers Bed.
