ST. ANDREWS, SCOTLAND— The St Andrews Bay Golf Resort & Spa here, which has been open only 18 months, has received Five Star International Status from VisitScotland (formally the Scottish Tourist Board). The $80 million, 520-acre resort is the flagship property of Château Élan Hotels & Resorts and is one of only four hotels in Scotland to achieve five-star status. Stephen Carter, the general manager, also received the Silver Thistle award, Scottish tourism’s award for exceptional hoteliers. The resort includes a 209-room hotel and two tournament-quality golf courses. The resort also features a cliff-side golf club house, as well as a full-service health spa and gym, an 18-meter heated indoor pool, a lobby cocktail bar, 15,000 square feet of conference center with ballroom, two boardrooms, a 106-seat auditorium, and two 4, 000-square-foot manor homes. The conference center at the resort can accommodate up to 1,000 persons.
