WESTERVILLE, OH—The SmarTV Company, LLC has introduced a Chromecast-based Over-the-Top (OTT) streaming solution that allows hotel guests to stream content wirelessly from their devices to their guestroom TV. Available in Q3 2015, the solution integrates with the GuestSmarTV experience and engagement platform, in addition to existing DirecTV, Dish Networks and/or Cable TV Free to Guest TV systems.
“Hoteliers have been asking us to give them an in-room entertainment system with Netflix for their guests. With our Chromecast streaming solution, we have given them Netflix along with more than 400 other movie, TV and music services,” said Seale Moorer, SmarTV chairman.
The SmarTV OTT Streaming Module enables guests to use their own devices to wirelessly cast content from hundreds of Google Chromecast-enabled apps from content providers and subscription-based services such as Netflix, Pandora, Hulu, WatchESPN and HBOGo as well as their own photos, music and videos and any browser content from their PC via the Google Chrome browser to their guestroom television.
Using Google Chromecast technology and the secure WiFi connection provided by the new SmarTV Android Set Top Box, guests can connect to a secure in-room Access Point and select the Streaming icon within any Chromecast-enabled app or use the Google Chrome browser. Their device acts as the remote control for the television, which allows for a full second-screen experience on the mobile device. No personal subscription data information is required from the guest, making the experience simple and fast in a secure, protected and private environment so that guests can view the content of their choice.
“Providing an interactive guest experience with robust Over-The-Top streaming technology is necessary for attracting, satisfying and retaining the next generation of hotel guests looking for a simple and easy way to continue to stay connected regardless of their location,” said Moorer. “Our Chromecast streaming solution allows guests to use any WiFi-enabled smartphone, tablet or laptop devices in a secure environment and provides access to a universe of additional content options for guests and additional revenue sources for hotels and resorts.”
