COLORADO Ski resorts here have slashed their capital improvements budgets in half this year after poor showings during the last two skiing seasons.

The state s ski areas will spend $111 million to improve resorts for the upcoming season, according to the trade industry association, Colorado Ski Country USA. This figure represents a 52.4% decline from the record $233 million spent in preparation for the 1999/2000 season.

Skier visits at Colorado resorts fell 4.5% during the past season to 10.9 million, the first drop below 11 million in 8 years. (8/25/00)
