DENVER Starwood Hotels and Resorts and Hyatt Regency have both offered letters of intent to build the new $217 million convention center hotel in Denver.
According to Michael Cahill, president of Hospitality Real Estate Counselors, The City of Denver opined that both offers are acceptable.
Now the decision rests in the hands of the developers, Bruce and Seth Berger, who are said to decide between building a Sheraton or a Hyatt within 60-90 days.
Originally Marriott International was the front-runner for the 1,100-room Denver hotel but, for reasons undisclosed, the deal with the Berger Realty fell through.
There were some union issues between Marriott and the City, but they were separate [from the Bergers], and they had been resolved, said Cahill. No one knows what the issues between Marriott and the Bergers were. Diana M. Rodriguez (9/20/00)
