LONDON—Nobu Hotels is set to open the Nobu Hotel Shoreditch here in June, marking the brand’s debut in Europe. Set back from the cultural hub of Great Eastern St., the hotel will have 143 guestrooms, seven suites and an on-site restaurant. There will be a spa and wellness area, exclusive culinary experiences, a lobby bar, meeting spaces and 24-hour in-room dining.

The original design scheme, by Ron Arad Architects, features overhanging floor slabs and cantilevered steel beams forming a frayed edge to the east, where a landscaped garden is terraced to bring natural light to the restaurant space. Ron Arad Architects left the project in 2013 and Ben Adams Architects was appointed in December 2013 to develop the design and complete the project. Studio PCH designed the 240-seat Nobu Shoreditch restaurant, while local designers Studio Mica handled the hotel’s interiors.

In the guestrooms, black joinery will contrast with the exposed concrete structure and textiles of the furniture. The look will be juxtaposed with the white bathrooms, which will offer a walk-in rain shower and custom-designed gold washbasin. The suites will overlook the courtyard and pocket garden from their own private balconies. These spaces have been designed to embrace the property’s distinctive architecture with a Japanese aesthetic.
