NEW YORK—NEXT Events, an emerging leader in design industry networking and thought leadership experiences, in partnership with Parallax Wellness + Hospitality, Hotel Business and InspireDesign, is excited to present the second virtual panel from Grounded by Design. “The Clean Revolution: Finding the New Normal in Commercial Design” will be held via Zoom on Tuesday, June 30th, at 2 p.m. EST. The virtual session will be available on-demand afterwards on both archive.hotelbusiness.com and myinspiredesign.com.

The virtual session will examine the building design practices, materials and products that are commonly used in healthcare settings and discuss how these elements translate into commercial and hospitality environments. Topics will include the evolution of biophilic design elements in commercial spaces; new standards for air filtration and sanitation protocols; specific changes for building materials in urban markets; rise of contactless and digital wellness platforms; new consumer journey experiences in the retail and hospitality industries; balancing sustainable experiences with sanitary products; and best sustainable and wellness insights for projects in the United States and around the world.

“The Clean Revolution virtual panel addresses a much-needed discussion for the commercial industry, as a result of the global pandemic,” said Adam Glickman, principal, Parallax Wellness + Hospitality, and moderator of the panel. “Owners, executives, architects and designers as well as building developers and managers will come away with a better understanding of applying innovative healthcare, natural and biophilic design solutions for retail, hotel, multifamily residential and office environments.”

The panelists consist of leaders in architecture and design as well as the healthcare, hospitality and retail industries:

  • Veronica Schreibeis Smith, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, is the CEO of Vera Iconica Inc. and founding chair of the Wellness Architecture Initiative at Global Wellness Institute. She is also the founder of the nonprofit organization Wellness Architecture + Design.
  • Amy Corneliussen Sickeler, RID, LEED AP, serves as the Atlanta design director of interiors and the healthcare interiors practice leader of Perkins & Will. She has dedicated her career to the design of innovative healing spaces and providing healthy spaces.
  • Steven Upchurch is co-managing director of Gensler Dallas, who applies his knowledge of local and international markets to deliver memorable experiences. He has more than three decades of design, planning, management and real estate development experience.
  • Justin Jabara is a third-generation hotelier and the president of Meyer Jabara Hotels, which owns, manages and third-party manages more than 25 hotels. He previously served as the company’s VP of development and acquisitions.
  • David Ashen is founder/partner of dash design, a leading New York City-based interior design and branding agency specializing in hotel, restaurant and retail as well as healthcare strategy and design. Clients include market leaders and Fortune 500 companies from all over the world.
  • Suzie Hall is the founder/president of Cornerstone Design, an award-winning interior design firm servicing the hospitality, commercial, high-end residential, multifamily, healthcare and mixed-use markets with 20 LEED projects to her credit.

The format of the webinar will consist of a moderated panel discussion followed by a question-and-answer period. Those interested in joining the conversation can register to attend for a $25 fee. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Hospitality Cares’ Coronavirus Fund to support hospitality professionals who have experienced financial, housing and medical hardships resulting from the global pandemic.
