The Thompson San Antonio lobby

Recent openings in the U.S. include a Thompson in Texas, a dual-branded Hyatt property in Florida and new hotels for Choice brands.

Thompson San Antonio
Thompson San Antonio, a 20-story, 162-room lifestyle hotel, has opened in the city’s Art District along River Walk.

The hotel’s guestrooms, including 33 suites, offer custom sofas; brown leather and buckle pillow-back headboards in some rooms; bespoke casegoods and entertainment centers; wet bars in suites; and stone and glass bathrooms with rainfall showers, plus sculptural free-standing soaking tubs in suites.

Amenities include four F&B outlets; a fourth-floor pool deck with a 2,000-sq.-ft. pool, lounge areas, pool bar and private luxury cabanas; the 5,000-sq.-ft. Thompson Spa; and more than 10,000 sq. ft. of indoor and outdoor meeting space.

Hyatt Place/Hyatt House Tampa Downtown
The dual-branded Hyatt Place Tampa Downtown and Hyatt House Tampa Downtown have opened as the first combined Hyatt Place and Hyatt House hotels located in downtown Tampa.

Located across the street from the historic City Hall, the 17-story building offers a single lobby serving both the 230-room Hyatt Place and 115-room Hyatt House. Amenities include 3,600 sq. ft. of contemporary meeting and event space; a heated rooftop pool and terrace; a fitness center; and a lobby-level restaurant/bar, Corazo, with an outdoor patio. The site also includes 3,200 sq. ft. of ground-floor retail space.

Architecture and design firm Stonehill Taylor designed the interior spaces, while Baker Barrios Architect and DPR Construction also contributed to the project.

Cambria Hotel Rock Hill—University Center
Choice Hotels International Inc.’s upscale Cambria Hotels has opened the Cambria Hotel Rock Hill—University Center. The six-story, 110-room hotel, developed by Sand Hospitality LLC, is the brand’s sixth to enter South Carolina, joining properties in Charleston, Fort Mill, Greenville, Mount Pleasant and Summerville. The Cambria Hotel Rock Hill—University Center is among four hotels opening in the first quarter of 2021 for the brand, in addition to hotels in Orlando, FL; Fort Lauderdale Beach, FL, which opened in January; and Washington, DC, which opened this month.

The Cambria Hotel Rock Hill—University Center is located in the new University Center Knowledge Park development, and is next door to the new Rock Hill Sports & Events Center. Amenities include multi-purpose indoor and outdoor spaces, including an indoor heated pool and 354 SkyBar, the hotel’s rooftop bar; on-site dining and to-go options; a health and wellness center; and 3,500 sq. ft. of multi-function meeting space.

Clarion Pointe Statesville
Clarion Pointe, a midscale, select-service brand extension franchised by Choice Hotels International Inc. has opened its 25th hotel, the Clarion Pointe Statesville in Statesville, NC. The brand now has nearly 50 hotels open or in the pipeline, with recent openings in Franklin, TN; Rock Hill, SC; and Beckley, WV, and additional openings anticipated this year in Tallahassee, FL; Salt Lake City; and Syracuse, NY.

Located just outside the Charlotte metropolitan area, the 104-room property offers a marketplace; complimentary breakfast; guestrooms with 49-inch TVs with casting capabilities and free WiFi; and dedicated workout space.

The hotel was developed by Tika Shah and Jigar Majmundar of Shrina Inc.
