PLAYA DEL CARMEN, MEXICO—Mahekal Beach Resort held its grand opening following a $10-million renovation.
The beach resort features 122 rooms located in individual thatched-roof bungalows, all less than a two-minute walk from the beach, according to the company. Additional new amenities include two swimming pools, a seaside Jacuzzi, two restaurants (Las Olas and Cocina), and three bars (Boli’s, Itzi and Las Olas).

All room types, whether Garden View, Ocean View, Penthouses or Ocean Front, feature outdoor terraces and hammocks, with stone pathways leading to each individual doorstep. Ocean Front accommodations are located directly on the beach and feature personal plunge pools.
Mahekal’s interior design is bohemian gypsy infused with Mexican accents. Designs range from Missoni-esque fabrics in the lobby and fireplace seating area, to bright orange ping pong tables and cobalt blue billiard tables in the main lobby bar and activity center.
