Longtime Hotel Labor Leader, Vito Pitta, Dies

NEW YORK— Vito Pitta, former president of the New York Hotel and Motel Trades Council and head of nationally recognized Local 6, has died. He was 78. Pitta was CEO of Local 6 for 35 years before retiring in 1995. In 1996, he retired as Trades Council president. During his tenure, Pitta was especially successful in achieving wage increases and enhanced pension contributions for his unions members.
