WASHINGTON—Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants has opened the Mason & Rook, a Kimpton Hotel, its latest lifestyle destination property here.
Mason & Rook, situated in the heart of the city’s 14th St. neighborhood, was designed with a social scene in mind. Ave Bradley, Kimpton’s creative director of design, and New York-based Bill Rooney Studio led the design project and drew inspiration from the tree-lined streets and brownstones near Logan Circle to evoke a warm, engaging and residential feel, according to the company.
Upon entering, there is a living room reminiscent of a great room furnished with seating and a credenza rather than the traditional front desk. Formerly an apartment building, the hotel features 178 spacious rooms and 18 suites created to look like an urban residence, according to the company. Design details include high-end fabrics, eclectic artwork, refined millwork, plaid carpet and textured finishes throughout the property. Guestrooms feature beds, work desks, large marble bathrooms with walk-in, glass enclosed rain showers and 65-in. smart TVs. The hotel’s Premier Spa Suites located at the corners of the hotel are outfitted with free-standing soaking bathtubs.
“Mason & Rook, a Kimpton Hotel is proud to be a part of the vibrant and thriving 14th St. neighborhood, drawing visitors to explore this interesting area of the district,” said GM Donte Johnson. “From our unique amenities and locally curated programming to our warm hospitality and excellent service, every aspect of Mason & Rook embodies the essence of a modern D.C. lifestyle.”
Adjacent to the hotel is Radiator, a culinary-focused cocktail bar featuring contemporary American small plates with global influences imagined by Executive Chef Jonathan Dearden. Radiator features a 57-seat bar area; a separate 23-seat lounge area; an outdoor 50-seat patio with a large fire pit; a shuffleboard court and games such as backgammon, dominoes, checkers and chess. In addition, 24-hour room service is available.
The property offers 4,000 sq. ft. of meeting and event space including The Exchange, a newly constructed, handsomely decorated 1,700-sq.-ft. ballroom with two onyx backlit skylights that can accommodate up to 150 people. Three smaller meeting rooms—Byrne, Marshall, and Fischer—can accommodate 25 guests each and feature natural light. Radiator provides catering for all events at Mason & Rook with curated menus and cocktail options.
